Local Counsel and Pro Hac Vice Admission

In the past Cornerstone Law Firm has served as local council and as movant for Pro Hac Vice admission for out of state attorneys to practice in Pennsylvania. We have sponsored temporary admissions to the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and other federal courts throughout the Commonwealth, as well as Philadelphia’s court, county court, and other courts.

Whether a firm or attorney needs Pro Hac Vice admission or local council depends on a number of factors including the local rules of the court in question, whether the out of state attorney is looking for assistance in understanding state and local rules and whether their grasp on Pennsylvania law is sufficient to allow them to work without substantial help.

Courts have different rules, of course. Some require local counsel to be deeply involved in the operations of a specific case. Other courts permit a more hands-off approach. In most cases we remain involved in the case even after the initial moving, but we work hard to meet the goals of out of state council.

Pro Hac Vice admission usually requires certificates of good standing from the jurisdiction the attorney is coming from, sometimes even local referrals from a judge or other attorney in the state where the attorney practices. At Cornerstone Law Firm our attorneys can help guide you through the process of seeking Pro Hac Vice admission or as servicing as local council for your case in Pennsylvania’s state and federal courts.
